Geometric abstractions for constrained optimization of layouts . ∗

چکیده
We discuss implementation of algorithms for constrained optimization, based on CLOS objects representing standard mathematical abstractions like affine spaces, vectors , and linear transformations. These abstractions simplify using the optimization library in varied applications, facilitate animation, carry no significant performance penalty (compared to traditional Fortran implementations). Our motivating problem is constructing layouts for interactive displays used to browse through the contents of a database (eg. a document retrieval system). These displays are constructed using ideas similar to multidimensional scaling; screen positions for glyphs representing entities in the database are chosen to minimize a penalty function that reflects the relationships among the entities.

متن کاملConstrained Multi-Objective Optimization Problems in Mechanical Engineering Design Using Bees Algorithm
Many real-world search and optimization problems involve inequality and/or equality constraints and are thus posed as constrained optimization problems. In trying to solve constrained optimization problems using classical optimization methods, this paper presents a Multi-Objective Bees Algorithm (MOBA) for solving the multi-objective optimal of mechanical engineering problems design. In the pre...

متن کاملGeometric properties of graph layouts optimized for greedy navigation
The graph layouts used for complex network studies have been mainly developed to improve visualization. If we interpret the layouts in metric spaces such as Euclidean ones, however, the embedded spatial information can be a valuable cue for various purposes. In this work, we focus on encoding useful navigational information to geometric coordinates of vertices of spatial graphs, which is a reve...

Parallel genetic algorithms techniques have been used in a variety of computer engineering and science areas. This paper presents a parallel genetic algorithm to solve the site layout problem with unequal-size and constrained facilities. The problem involves coordinating the use of limited space to accommodate temporary facilities subject to geometric constraints. The problem is characterised b...
